The Importance of Preventing Conflicts by Ji Young
Small conflicts can end up as big conflicts if we cannot and don’t stop them early. If we didn’t prevent conflicts, every day would be like September 11th, just disastrous and violent.
Small conflicts can happen every where. For example at school, there is racial discrimination like the Jena 6. The Jena 6 is a group of six black teenagers who were charged with the beating of a white boy in that school. It started off with 3 white students who hung nooses from a tree and discriminated them. This was such a huge issue, because one of the Jena 6 was charged as an adult for conspiracy of murder, but he was under aged (Jena High). It was unfair that the white judge gave the white boys an easy charge. Then the whole community was involved. There are petitions going on till this day asking them to free the students who went to jail for this. In this situation, it began with small incidents such as bad feelings and pranks. Because it was not stopped early, it became worse, turning it into real, serious violence. The conflict escalated and got the whole town involved. There are petitions going on till this day asking them to free the students who went to jail for this. This was a very bad situation. This was something that could have been easily prevented.
The same situation happens between nations. The Taliban and the America both never liked each other, and that caused bigger conflicts which lead to September 11 and the war in Iraq (Iraq War). The US invasion in Iraq just made the situation worse. It lead to quick defeat, but it still left a disaster there and the war is still ongoing till this day. If the Taliban and America negotiated and made peace together, the small conflict would have been stopped. It also would have prevented the September 11 and the war that is going on now. This clearly showed us that if the small conflicts aren’t prevented it can lead to huge disasters.
Even in a small community like schools conflicts happen and they often get bigger, because we don’t stop them properly. If we stopped those conflicts properly and ended it, we might be living in a better world now. Stopping and preventing small conflicts are the only way to stop big conflicts.
